Poor dental health can cause discomfort and embarrassment. While many of us have dental issues that we’re unhappy with, sometimes this can be a real deal, particularly when there are several problems, such as missing,
damaged, misaligned, or discoloured teeth, it can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to treatment.

If you’re dissatisfied with the appearance of your smile, there’s always something you can do. At Volition Smile we can change how you think about your teeth and improve your confidence.

A smile makeover is whatever you need it to be. It is a completely patient-informed series of procedures designed to combat the issues you feel
affect you the most.

Composite Bonding:

Composite bonding is a cosmetic procedure that involves applying a tooth coloured composite resin material to your existing teeth. It’s an excellent option for fixing chipped, fractured or discoloured teeth.
Composite bonding offers immediate results. In most cases a single visit will enable us to fix minor imperfections with immediate results and no downtime. Composite Bonding is a non-invasive procedure and can be a cost-effective of achieving a new desired look.

How does composite bonding work?
The tooth enamel is gently cleaned with a weak acidic gel to prepare the surface before the bonding agent is placed. We will then apply tooth coloured composite resin material in small amounts to the tooth in different shades to build up the right colour and contour of the tooth. A UV light is then used to harden and set the material. The material is then polished, and the shape refined
How long does composite bonding last?
Due to the material of the composite bond being softer than your natural teeth they need to be maintained well and are more prone to discolouration. We have our composite conditioning treatment available to keep composite at its best and advise this every 3-6months. Typically, composite bonding cosmetically lasts around 5 years
What is the difference between composite edge bonding and composite veneers?
Composite edge bonding allows us to make small subtle changes to the length or shape of the existing tooth whereas composite veneers cover the full front surface of the natural tooth and hence allow us to change the shape or hide discolouration’s/patches that may be affecting the tooth.
Should I whiten my teeth before or after composite bonding?
We would always advise teeth whitening is done prior to composite bonding so that the new tooth shade can be achieved and then the composite bonding can be matched to this.
What are the benefits of composite bonding?

There are multiple advantages to composite bonding for your teeth, including:
● Enhancing/restoring your tooth shape
● No drilling of the tooth is necessary and therefore no injection is
required.
● Most cases are completed in one appointment.
● Can change the shade of your teeth if composite veneers are used.
To find out more please book an initial consultation today to see if you are suitable for this procedure.

Can I whiten composite bonding?

Teeth whitening gel does not have an affect on composite however if you have had composite edge bonding then the natural tooth portion that is still on show can be whitened to maintain the shade and allow the bonding to continually match.
If you have had composite veneers this cannot be whitened.
Our composite conditioning treatment is specifically designed to maintain the shade of composite bonding.

Can composite bonding be done on the lower teeth?
Composite bonding can be performed on lower teeth in some cases. Your dentist will need to assess the amount of space available for the composite bonding. Sometimes composite veneers can be placed on the lower teeth but this will also require a thorough evaluation of your bite to ensure the composite veneers will function correctly.

COMPOSITE VENEERS:

What are composite veneers?

Like porcelain veneers, composite veneers can be used to help improve the appearance of uneven, chipped, cracked, or discoloured teeth. Unlike porcelain veneers, they are made of composite resin and are bonded to the teeth.

How are composite veneers applied?

Composite veneers are shaped by hand and cover the whole tooth. The process is not dissimilar to composite bonding. Unless your teeth are misaligned, composite veneers are applied without
affecting your natural teeth. During your consultation, our professional dentists will talk you through the process and what you can expect.

How much do composite veneers cost?

If you’re interested in knowing how much our composite veneer treatment costs, please see our prices below.

Composite veneers – from £300 per tooth

What happens to the natural tooth under the composite?
Composite veneers function like normal teeth and hence they need to be treated with care. You will still need to maintain an excellent cleaning regime at home as well as visiting our therapists to allow for professional cleaning.
The composite material is bonded to the natural tooth structure and hence there is no gaps or spaces in which anything can get stuck.
Can the composite veneers be removed?
Composite can be sanded off your natural teeth carefully without undue damage to your natural tooth. Some of the polishing discs will touch the natural tooth and hence a grainy feeling can present for a short time. The natural tooth can be polished to make the enamel feel as normal.
Composite veneers however are not designed to be removed and we mostly advise they are replaced with either new composite veneers or porcelain veneers when they are due to be replaced.
Does it hurt?
There is no need for injections hence the treatment is comfortable.
How will I know what colour veneers to choose?
We will be able to show you a variety of shades to choose from. You will then be able to select which shade you would like your final composite veneers.
If only one arch is being treated we advise tooth whitening is done prior to the composite veneers to allow for the new shade wanted to blend in with the rest of the teeth.
How long do they last?
Composite veneers last in the region of 5 years before requiring replacement.
Do they stain easily?
Since composite is a resine, it is more susceptible to discolouration in comparison to porcelain or natural enamel.
Our composite conditioning treatment is ideal to maintain and preserve the shade and condition of composite veneers alongside a diet which is not high is staining foods/drinks such as coffee, red wine and curries.
We highly also recommend that you do not smoke with composite veneers as this will lead to significant discolouration.

Porcelain veneers:

One of the most popular ways of improving your smile is via the use of porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneer treatments can correct several concerns in a short period of time.
Porcelain Veneers are custom made thin porcelain shells that are bonded to your existing teeth to improve the appearance of your teeth. This procedure enables us to transform your smile with the use of minimal alterations to your nature teeth.
They can be used to improve the colour or shape of the teeth. They can even be used to hide spaces or completely restore a broken down/worn tooth.
Do my teeth need to be drilled down to have veneers?
We understand that most patients fear having their teeth drilled down into small stumps. This is a misconception and when veneers are done properly the amount of tooth reduction is very minimal or sometimes none.
The amount of alteration required is dependent on several factors such as the starting shade, position and condition of the teeth. The bite may also impact the amount of alteration to create the best result.
How do I clean my natural tooth underneath the veneer?
Veneers function like normal teeth and hence they need to be treated with care. You will still need to maintain an excellent cleaning regime at home as well as visiting our therapists to allow for professional cleaning.
Can I whiten porcelain veneers?
The colour of porcelain cannot be changed by whitening gels. The colour you choose of your porcelain veneers will be the final shade. We will of course advise and assist you in making this important decision.
Do veneers hurt?
As the preparation is generally very minimal, sometimes no anaesthetic is required at all. In cases where more alteration is required small volumes of local anaesthetic may be used, which will mean you won’t be able to feel anything.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Porcelain is a very long-lasting material and is prone to very little discolouration over time. They can last between12 to 25+ years in full mouth rehabilitation.
How much does it cost?

From £750 per tooth.
