TOOTH EXTRACTION Manchester
REASONS FOR TOOTH EXTRACTION
EXTRACTION PROCEDURE
We know that for some patients, receiving a tooth extraction could be an intimidating prospect, but this needn’t be the case.
The patient will first be administered with a local anaesthetic before beginning the treatment, so they won’t experience any pain. We’ll then begin to gently widen the socket of the tooth to loosen and remove it.
AFTER THE TOOTH IS REMOVED
We may have to administer stitches to help the socket heal properly and we’ll go through all after care needs with the patient.
Patient will be advised to avoid smoking/drinking alcohol for 24-48 hours following extraction to prevent socket infection which is called dry socket and is very painful.
Patient will also be advised to avoid hot drinks and hot foods before the anaesthetic has completely worn off, and to keep the area clean.
It is normal to start to experience pain in the area as the effects of the anaesthesia begins to wear off. If this pain is uncomfortable, we recommend taking a painkiller such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. If the pain persists after several days, pt should contact us here at the practice for a follow-up.
Depending on the reasons behind tooth extraction, we advise our patient to consider replacing their missing tooth/teeth. We can help them to decide which treatment might be best for them at this stage, and have a wide range of options available including implants, bridges, dentures, and implant retained bridges.
